chrispb123456 Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Broken spring maybe, not had this on a Galaxy but spring had broke and broken bit was sticking out and catching the inner wing panel. It wasn't that obvious, no visible change in ride heightFrom memory I don't think you can put it back together wrong Quote
sparky Paul Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 It is possible to fit the bearing to the strut upside down, but it 's very obvious that it's wrong when you put the bush and bearing together. Additionally, this would have caused a problem from day one, rather than 5 months later. Broken spring is certainly possible, the top coil snaps off leaving the rest of the spring sat on the suspension turret, rather than the strut top seat and bearing. This gives the exact symptom described, and any drop in ride height on one side tends to be levelled out by the antiroll bar, making it less obvious. Probably less likely, but maybe the bearings were dry when fitted and one's finally given up? Quote
zorgman Posted February 10, 2012 Author Report Posted February 10, 2012 thanks for info. when im upto it going to av a look at spring and see if i can get som oil down there to dot know if oil wil get at bearing seem to think its below rubber bush and is a 2rs sealed unit Quote
sparky Paul Posted February 10, 2012 Report Posted February 10, 2012 Just have a feel, make sure there's clearance between the wide part of the spring at the top and the underside of the strut turret. The thrust bearing sits up inside the the bush, with the seal on the underside IIRC, so there's no access to the bearing surfaces from above and no point squirting any oil down there. The only chance of getting any lube in is to jack the corner up so the strut drops down, just giving tight access to the top bush. You might get a spray lube with a long pipe on the nozzle up into the bearing. Quote
